Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are basically the same in terms of performance, explains John Carmack, co-founder of id Software. During his QuakeCon 2013 presentation told the big man behind games like Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake that he was surprised to discover how much the two next-gen consoles are alike.Carmack said:
I have not really done rigorous benchmarking [but] they're very close and they're both very good. It's almost amazing how close they are in capabilities, how common they are.
Incidentally Carmack was still critical of Kinect, partly due to a moderate connection and limited framerate. Whether the new Kinect will have a better appeal to the public is another matter, though it matters of course that the Xbox One standard will be supplied with Kinect
The Xbox One appears in November for 499 euros. The PlayStation 4 will appear somewhere around the holidays and has a price tag of 399 euros.
